I Like This Picture

Tis the season... tis the season. There is so much (and yet so little) going on around this time of the year. I wanted to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas (and to fill my self imposed quota of December posts. But, you didn't need to know that.).

Turning the Rains Over

Once again, I am going to feature a post this week from the Beckinator.  It scored her a perfect 100% in her Composition class.  Way to go.  Some day, I hope to achieve her level of perfection.  A pipe dream, I know, but a dream nonetheless.
As the plane sat on the Orlando International Airport tarmac ready to transport me back home to Wisconsin, I couldn't help but think to myself, “I certainly hope that I will be able to look back on this and laugh some day.” I should have known from the onset and heeded the signs that this little vacation with my best friend, Tennille, might not be all that we had hoped for. Planning ahead, we decided to spend the night in Minneapolis in order to catch our 7 am flight. Although both of us were in our early 20's, we were like a couple of 8-year-olds on Christmas Eve, and our eagerness made it impossible for us to go to sleep when we should have. In addition to the alarm clock in the room, Tennille and I each set multiple alarms on our phones to ensure that we got up in ample time to get ready and get to the airport. At 9 am the following morning, after realizing that none of our alarms had gone off, I shot out of bed in a panic. Waking Tennille up, I was trying to figure out how we were going to get to Orlando with the now worthless tickets that we had. As we gathered up our belongings, we hatched a plan and headed to the airport. We went over the story a few times, nailed a few “facts” and quizzed each other as if we were the ticket agent. Our story was air tight. With butterflies in my stomach, we approached the ticket counter and laid out our story: we had been in a car accident, which was the reason for missing our flight. The agent listened patiently, made a few calls and, surprisingly, got us on a flight the next morning at no charge. Now, we were well on our way to four days in the Florida sun. The first day and a half were everything that we had planned on; the sun, the ocean, the dancing. By day three, the black cloud that was our luck, materialized in the form of a real black cloud that started to dump buckets of rain on our little parade. Hurricane Janice was now reaching land and putting a serious damper on all of our fun. Stuck in our hotel, I decided that I was going to be a little adventurous and get a first hand look at this storm. After a few moments outside, I ran upstairs to get Tennille. Marble flooring, wet flip-flops and a misplaced step sent me to the floor as I heard a “POP” and felt an immediate pain in my ankle. The staff at the local hospital were incredibly accommodating as they fitted me with crutches and an air-cast, for my broken ankle, and sent me on my way. Finally, the last day of my magical vacation was spent in the hotel room watching TV and nursing a bum ankle. Tennille and I often discuss going back to visit the sunshine state in hopes to have the vacation that we had intended; however, considering the outcome of the first trip, we end up talking ourselves out of it!

Sexy Chocolate

Being that it is now the season of giving, I have decided to give up attempting to post this month ( for the next couple of weeks) in favor of having a guest poster. She does not quite know this yet and will be quite surprised when she reads this (kinda like getting a Christmas present). So, here we go on December 1st...
